Apartment 387 makes silk flowers, but Alex isn't really selling flowers. He's making permanent objects of design. What I really wanted to discover was where his eye comes from: the art he returns to, the imperfection he obsesses over, the wildness and asymmetry he chases.

We built a portrait of the person behind the arrangements. We followed him through galleries, New York streets, and the quiet of his studio, revealing the taste behind his craft.
